What is the Student Visa?

The Colombian Student Visa authorizes foreign nationals to pursue in-person, virtual, or distance academic programs, including higher education, technical and trade studies, artistic training, internships, and formal exchange programs between recognized institutions. Our team structures the application based on program type, duration, and institutional status to ensure regulatory compliance.

Nationals of visa-exempt countries are not required to obtain a Student Visa when their academic stay in Colombia does not exceed 180 days.

Student Visa FAQ
Student Visa Guide
Frequently Asked Questions
Clear answers to your most pressing questions about the student visa process, requirements, and post-arrival obligations.
What is the Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) requirement?
expand_more
The OSHC is a mandatory health insurance requirement for international students in Australia. It helps cover the costs of medical and hospital care that you may need while studying. You must secure OSHC for the entire duration of your student visa before your application is approved. Exceptions apply for certain students covered by reciprocal health care agreements.
How long is a Student Visa valid?
expand_more
A Student Visa is typically valid for the duration of your enrolled course(s), plus an additional buffer period. This buffer is usually one to two months, allowing you time to organize your departure or apply for a further visa, such as a Post-Study Work Visa, if eligible. The exact duration will be specified on your visa grant notice.
Can I work while holding a Student Visa?
expand_more
Yes, most Student Visas permit you to work up to 48 hours per fortnight while your course is in session, and unlimited hours during recognized holiday periods. However, it's crucial to confirm these specific conditions on your visa grant, as breaching work limitations can lead to visa cancellation. Note that work conditions can occasionally change based on government policy.
What happens if I change my course or institution?
expand_more
Changing your course or education provider can impact your visa status. If you are changing to a lower-level qualification or a different education sector, you will generally need to apply for a new Student Visa. If you are changing providers within the first 6 months of your principal course, you need permission from your current provider (a release letter). Always consult with an immigration advisor before making significant changes.
What is the Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) requirement?
expand_more
The GTE requirement is an integrity measure ensuring the student visa program is accessed as intended. Applicants must demonstrate that their primary intention is to stay temporarily in Australia to gain a quality education. This involves providing a personal statement and evidence of ties to your home country, potential future employment, and reasons for choosing the specific course in Australia.

Do not risk your immigration process. Our legal and visa specialists are ready to provide you with rigorous, personalized guidance tailored to your profile.
