What is the Parent of Colombian Child Visa?

The Parent of a Colombian National Visa (Type M) is designed for foreign citizens who are parents of a child born in Colombia (or a Colombian national by adoption). This visa is highly sought after as it allows the holder to accumulate time towards permanent residency.

Valid for up to three years, this permit grants full authorization to work in Colombia for any legal or natural person. Our team assists in compiling the necessary documentation, including the child’s updated Civil Birth Registry and your migratory movement certificates, while verifying that your bank statements sufficiently demonstrate financial solvency and income sources.

Requirements: Parent of Colombian Child (M)

Core Eligibility Criteria
  • Colombian Birth Certificate

Ministry Criterion Full copy of the Colombian Civil Registry of Birth (Registro Civil de Nacimiento) of the child, showing the link to the foreign parent. Compliance Risks Registry copies that are not recent or are missing the "Válido para Trámites" note often lead to immediate inadmissibility.
    ★ USP ADVANTAGE
Our lawyers ensure the registry meets all formal requirements and validates the parent-child legal link before submission. Start your legal review →
  • Maintenance & Support Proof

Ministry Criterion A signed letter stating you fulfill all parental obligations (food, health, education) and are in good standing with any child support duties. Technical Risks Vague declarations or lack of proof of physical presence/contact with the child are major red flags for immigration officers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I work for Colombian companies with this visa?
No. The Digital Nomad Visa is strictly for providing services to companies or clients domiciled outside of Colombia. If you wish to work for a Colombian entity, you would need a Work Visa (M or V type depending on the contract).
Do I need to be in Colombia to apply?
Not necessarily. You can apply from a Colombian consulate abroad or from within Colombia if you have a valid entry permit (tourist stamp). Our team handles the online submission regardless of your location.
Can I bring my family?
Yes. Beneficiaries (spouse/children) can be included in your application. They will receive a beneficiary visa linked to your main visa. Additional financial proof may be required.
Will I have to pay taxes in Colombia?
This is complex and depends on your stay duration. Generally, if you stay over 183 days in a 365-day period, you become a tax resident. However, Colombia has double taxation treaties with many countries. This is why our accounting team's advice is crucial.
